Guess Who's Coming to State Dinner is the ninth episode of Season 2 and the overall twenty-second episode of The Venture Bros.

Gargantua 1 is going down. Lt. Baldavitch leaves her seat and approaches Bud Manstrong. Gargantua 1 crashes.

Bud Manstrong has a microchip implanted in his brain after Gargantua 1 crashes. His mother is planning on using said chip to have her son assassinate the President.

Dr. Venture, Brock, Bud Manstrong and his mother attend a dinner given by the President.

Bud Manstrong is wearing a black, mourning armband; as Lt. Baldavitch is never heard of again, the implication is that she has died in the crash.

Meanwhile the ghost of Abraham Lincoln recruits Dean and Hank to help stop the assassination.

Dr. Venture has invented a portable force-field generator, which he plans on selling to the government.

Dr. Venture, Brock, Agent Hauser, President Breyer, Bud and Mrs. Manstrong end up being trapped inside the Oval Office after Hauser breaks the control for the force-field generator.

Cultural ReferencesEdit

  • Agent Hauser's name is probably a reference to on of the recurring characters in the William S. Burroughs books Junky, Naked Lunch (and others); the infamous cops Hauser and O'Brian.
  • The entire episode is a loose parody of The Manchurian Candidate, which is explicitly referenced by the ghost of Abraham Lincoln.
  • Colonel Bud Manstrong's line at the end of the episode "My God it's full of stars." Is a reference to Dr. Dave Bowman's final words in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
